In the wake of a skewering at the hands of unhappy constituents following the Loudoun County Republican Jamboree and Straw Poll, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock of Virginia’s 10th Congressional District has turned up the heat on her opponent, launching a barrage of untrue personal attacks in a desperate attempt to regain traction. Lacking the conservative credentials to run on in a Republican primary, Comstock has quickly turned the campaign negative, running full speed away from her voting record.
Since arriving in Washington, Comstock has supported a number of big government initiatives, recently including the massive omnibus spending bill. Despite vocal opposition from voters in her home district, Comstock linked arms with some of the worst politicians Washington has to offer, and continued the selling out of generations of Americans yet to be born.
On guns, Comstock’s record is dismal. While serving in Virginia’s General Assembly from 2010-2014, Comstock received a mere 60% pro-gun rating from the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a score far lower than Virginia’s average Republican legislator, and shockingly, even lower than a number of Democrats. In Washington, Comstock has continued to attack the 2nd Amendment rights of the American people, going as far as to co-sponsor H.R. 4477, a bill referred to by anti-gun fanatic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut as ‘the most important piece of bipartisan guns legislation since Manchin-Toomey.’ 4477, also known as the ‘Fix NICS Bill,’ would take 2nd Amendment rights from the American people for offenses as minor as traffic tickets, filing their names away in what the National Association for Gun Rights refers to as a ‘gun control super database.’
In addition to her votes against the 2nd Amendment, Comstock joined a group of lawmakers in signing an October 2017 letter to ATF Director Thomas E. Brandon, calling for a ban on bump stocks, the rifle attachment that has been grossly misrepresented and targeted for confiscation by mainstream media and anti-gun politicians. The letter, written by perhaps the most left-leaning Republican on Capitol Hill, Adam Kinzinger, went as far as to borrow a favorite term of the rabidly anti-gun left in calling for ‘common sense’ gun control measures to be taken extrajudicially by the federal government.
Comstock’s pattern of anti-gun votes and advocacy falls right in line with her history of wading knee-deep through the D.C. swamp, rubbing elbows with career politicians and criminals. Since taking office, Comstock has served on the Committee on House Administration, personally authorizing the payment of $2 million in taxpayer-funded hush money to Congress’ many sexual harassment and assault victims. Of course, under her watch, the assailants have remained anonymous, and Comstock has ignored calls by both her constituents and her opponent to release the names of those protected by her committee.
Perhaps the biggest indicator of Comstock’s swamp loyalties lies in her ties to establishment mega-donor Paul Singer, and the reliably pro-Comstock Washington Free Beacon. During the 2016 election cycle, the Free Beacon funded Fusion GPS to gather information on then-candidate Donald Trump, leading directly to the creation and release of the phony ‘Russian dossier,’ the document used to gain illegal FISA warrants on members of the Trump team. Paul Singer, who has also donated six-figure sums Common Core initiatives and the George Soros funded, open borders advocacy group, the National Immigration Forum, has bankrolled Comstock’s career since her days running for state-level office. With friends like Singer, it’s no wonder why Comstock has long served as a ‘plug’ in the Washington swamp.
