Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch filed an ethics complaint against Minnesota Representative and far-left Democrat Ilhan Omar last week. The complaint, which was hand-delivered in letter form to Congressional Ethics Office Chairman David Skaggs, urges the House of Representatives to ‘investigate and resolve the serious allegations of wrongdoing by Rep. Omar.’ Highlighting ‘crimes tied to allegations that Omar may have married her biological brother’, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton encouraged readers to ‘share their views on Rep. Omar’s apparent misconduct with their congressmen’ in a Friday press release informing readers of the complaint.

Citing ‘substantial, compelling and, to date unrefuted evidence’ that Representative Omar violated both federal and Minnesota state law, Judicial Watch accused the so-called squad member of ‘perjury, immigration fraud, marriage fraud, state and federal tax fraud, and federal student loan fraud.’ According to the complaint, evidence gathered against Omar ‘was the result of a three-year-long investigation in both the United States and the United Kingdom’ by investigative reporter David Steinberg, and his colleagues Preya Samsundar and Scott Johnson. Evidence is backed by public records, forensic analysis, sources within the Somali-American community, and more. Steinberg, who previously investigated corruption linked to ex-Majority Leader Eric Cantor, describes Omar’s alleged crimes as ‘the most extensive spree of illegal misconduct by a House member in American history.’
Detailed in Judicial Watch’s letter to David Skaggs, The Steinberg team’s investigation found that ‘Rep. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, a citizen of the United States, married her biological brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a citizen of the United Kingdom, in 2009, presumably as part of an immigration fraud scheme’. In addition to assisting in her brother’s immigration to the United States, the marriage scheme appears to have resulted in allowing Elmi to obtain federally-backed student loans while attending North Dakota State University. ‘Mr. Elmi and Rep. Omar simultaneously attended North Dakota State University and may have derived illicit benefits predicated on the immigration fraud scheme’, Judicial Watch says.
When Omar and her brother divorced in 2017, she told the State of Minnesota, under the penalty of perjury, that she had had no contact with Elmi since June of 2011, and no idea where to find him. This was a lie found Steinberg, as photographic evidence discovered on her Instagram account revealed that Omar visited her brother, who at the time was also her husband, in London in 2015. As Judicial Watch points out, this isn’t the first time that Omar has been caught in a legally comprising lie, as Minnesota’s Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board ‘has already determined that Rep. Omar violated state campaign finance laws for improper use of campaign funds’, leading to her being forced to reimburse the campaign for thousands of dollars. Additionally, the Minnesota board has found that in 2014 and 2015, while married to her brother Ahmed Elmi, Omar filed joint tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi, her present-day husband.
Interestingly enough, as legal questions surrounding her marital history mount, Omar and current husband Hirsi have reportedly separated. The story of Omar and Hirsi, who have three children together, is a bizarre one, even more so when you consider Hirsi’s appearance on Omar’s 2014 and 2015 tax returns. According to the Daily Mail, the two first ‘married’ in 2002, though not legally, having never applied for a marriage license. After producing two children, the couple reportedly ‘divorced’ in 2008, again not in the legal sense of the term, with Omar going on to legally marry Ahmed Elmi, her brother, a year later. While married to Elmi, Omar gave birth to her third child but listed Hirsi, her ex, as the father. Shortly following her divorce from Elmi in 2017, Omar legally married Hirsi.
The writing is on the wall. Though Omar has stood firm in her refusal to address these issues, and the Democrat-Media complex has stood firm in their refusal to ask questions, thanks to Steinberg’s reporting the American people have been shown who Representative Ilhan Omar truly is. With the information provided by Steinberg’s reports and the weight of Judicial Watch behind the push for an investigation, Congress has no excuse not to act.
