Our current national debt as of May 11th is $21 trillion dollars. Think about it, we haven’t been able to bring down that debt a smidge with a Republican-controlled White House, Senate, and House because there is an inconvenient truth that somehow hasn’t gotten through to many people. Yes, your representative may be a Republican, but they are far from a fiscally conservative and responsible spender. One example sadly, is the current Virginia 10th district representative, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock.
She pledged in 2014 to fight to balance the budget and rein in federal spending on the Mark Levin show and other prominent conservative platforms, but now we find her smiling, thinking of all the special interest groups she pleased after helping pass the recent monster omnibus bill. This $1.3 trillion dollar bill was only hours old and Comstock voted for it without even reading it like most members of Congress. Congressman Justin Amash said it beautifully on his Twitter account as the votes were being cast, “This #omnibus bill is the swampiest thing I’ve ever seen in Washington (and I’ve seen a lot of garbage come through Congress)…” When we look at where our national debt currently stands, we can break it down to see the debt is $64,539 per US citizen and $174,168 per taxpayer, this is literal generational theft which Republicans have for years warned us about.
She could have fought against it, she could have even abstained, but instead, she helped carry that debt bomb to victory and dropped more weight on the backs of American taxpayers. The common excuse you hear from members of the 10th district Republican Party is that Barbara is a moderate and has to appease the left of center voters in her district, but that bill alone was extremely unpopular by even the most centrist of constituents because each year we begin to feel the crushing weight of the national debt more so than before. This isn’t appeasement, this is an outright lie and betrayal.
Barbara has a history of voting for bills she either doesn’t read or just knows from the start will keep her establishment special interest donors happy. Earmark spending alone shows she has no fiscal restraint, voting against the DeSantis-Budd Letter in 2018 which according to FreedomWorks “urges House Republican leaders to hold a public vote to reinstate earmarks, should the House Republican Conference move forward on the tone-deaf notion of reinstating earmarks.”
She ran away from President Trump for almost the entirety of his first year, but after the success of the recent Republican tax cuts pretended to lead on that issue and swaddled herself in the President’s success. Barbara Comstock has a push-play problem, one minute she’ll complain about federal budget busters but five minutes later she’ll be at the scene of the crime voting for it. Virginia can’t afford another congressional embarrassment out of her, and America can’t afford any more of Barbara’s financial irresponsibility.
