Republican candidate for Congress in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, Nicolas Kimaz, has called on Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel to resign following the slaughter of 17 students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Parkland, a city of roughly 23,000, sits within the boundaries of the 22nd District, and is currently represented by Democrat Congressman Ted Deutch, who has appeared alongside Sheriff Israel on a number of occasions.
Following the mass shooting, Sheriff Israel, a Democrat, has joined party leadership in renewed calls for bans on firearms, and appeared at a scripted CNN town hall a week after the shooting. Despite Israel’s calls for gun bans, he has dramatically played down two key facts about the shooting that could dramatically impact the left’s gun control narrative: 1) The actions of his deputies who stood down during the shooting, waiting outside as gunfire rang out inside the school. 2) the fact that his deputies were called to visit the shooter at his home a total of 39 times before the shooting took place.
In a video posted to Facebook, candidate Nicolas Kimaz stood outside a Broward County Public School as he said ‘I am calling on Sheriff Israel to resign immediately. I’m angry, I’m pissed, I’m upset, at how this entire situation was handled,’ echoing the sentiments of many in Broward County who are wondering what the Sheriff’s Office could have done to prevent such an atrocity from taking place. ‘Sheriff Israel’s office knew everything about Cruz,’ Kimaz continued. ‘About his threat to the community and to the school, and did NOTHING! And now we learn that up to four Deputies were standing outside the school while fourteen children and three teachers were murdered. For the sake of the victims and their families, and the community that does not trust Sheriff Israel can perform his duty any longer, we ask him to resign immediately.’
