In light of the recent #FredoCuomo viral video controversy, Politics Elections uncovered a video from 2018 where Chris Cuomo accuses his TV show guest, a Virginia candidate for US Senate, of all kinds of things with very loose and weak evidence at best.
The Guest, Corey Stewart, fired back and caught Cuomo off guard by asking him two simple questions. Why won’t you and the left disavow AntiFa, and will you disavow your Father’s anti-semitic statements?
These questions, which remained unanswered, left Cuomo in a furious tizzy, and the same type of anger that showed in the more recent video of him after being called ‘Fredo’, was likely being held back, because obviously, one can’t act the way he did in the viral video on his CNN show.
Cuomo’s father, Mario, who did indeed pass away a few years ago, was referenced in a tweet by Donald Trump Jr. just a few days ago, where he says “homophobia runs in the family“. He was referring to a slogan that went around during Mario Cuomo’s bid for mayor that Cuomo denied being connected to, that said ‘vote for Cuomo, not the homo’.
Although Cuomo did not dispute the anti-semitic claims made against his Father, it’s unclear where the accusations are from. Nevertheless, he refused to say that he or the left has any obligation to disavow the violent group AntiFa and tried to sidestep the question because he is the one who’s supposed to be asking the questions.
Corey Stewart, at one point, said “I have condemned the extremists on the right time and time again”, then later, “you never want to condemn extremism on your own side of the aisle”. Cuomo replied that time, “there is none! My aisle is the truth! I am a journalist!” In this line, it could either be taken as Cuomo is stating he is unbiased and completely apolitical or as he is saying that there is no extremism on the left, neither of which is remotely true.
Still later, after Cuomo tries to bait Mr. Stewart by asking him to denounce people by association, Stewart replies, “this is the guilt by association that the left always plays, have you ever condemned AntiFa?” In response, Cuomo says it’s irrelevant because he’s not running for office.
