Romney Targets Young People in Climate Change Push

72-year-old U.S. Senator from Utah Mitt Romney is making headlines again. This time he’s neither bashing President Trump, or running for President again, but touting his more vocal thoughts on climate change.

During a speech that he attended on Monday at the conservative Sutherland Institute in Salt Lake City, he mentioned how he believes in climate change and that humans play a significant role. He acknowledged that is a rare thing to hear from Republicans on climate change and that he believes young people are likely to be more receptive to the topic.

One other Republican who has spoken out as well is Florida U.S. Rep Matt Gaetz (R). Gaetz believes that the GOP must stand up to climate change.

On Gaetz from Observer.com:

In April, the Trump ally introduced legislation that would cut greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on innovations in the private sector. As a counter to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) Green New Deal, Gaetz’s “Green Real New Deal” would increase federal investment in clean energy technology like solar and nuclear power.

“[If] we get this right, if we make the right investments in our grid, then we will create a class of energy entrepreneurs over the country,” said the congressman when introducing the resolution. “Where people can put up solar cells, access hydropower, and then move that power back on to the grid so that renewable cleaner energy can be democratized over wider swathes of the country.”

Romney hasn’t tweeted much about climate change in the last few days, but he did make a post about a recent town hall he held in Utah with Constituents and thanked them for showing up and sharing their views.

Former Vice President Al Gore was one of the first prominent icons to get the climate change narrative rolling. Although things didn’t all pan out exactly like he said they would, he still insists that we are dealing with a crisis, one which will be much worse if we don’t act.

While Gore, who speaks in a PBS video shown below, is putting a lot of anti-Trump rhetoric out there, Romney seems relatively mum on ‘The Donald’ as of late, and although he hasn’t officially endorsed President Trump to be re-elected in 2020, he has stated that’s it’s likely he will win.

The senator has yet to endorse a candidate in the 2020 presidential election but has said that Trump will likely win re-election in 2020 as an incumbent presiding over a strong economy.
