Former Congressman Ron Paul has offered a rare endorsement to Shak Hill in the race for the Republican nomination to Congress in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Paul, a conservative icon often cited as the ‘father of the Tea Party movement,’ spent his career in Washington squaring off with the ideological forebearers of Hill’s primary foe, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, and now serves as a sharp critic of the D.C. elite.
Hill, a liberty-minded candidate and Air Force combat veteran, stands alongside Congressman Paul on many core campaign issues, including fiscal responsibility and American’s right to bear arms. As a member of Congress, Paul earned a reputation of always casting votes in line with the Constitution, and avoided increasing the size and scope of federal government at all costs. As a candidate, Hill lists reforming Washington as a top campaign issue and promises to help President Trump drain the swamp, and reign in the ever bloated federal government. The issue of abortion is close to the hearts of both men. As a Medical Doctor, Paul delivered over 4,000 babies in rural south Texas, and in Washington, never cast a vote that would endanger the rights of the unborn. For Shak Hill, the issue is even more personal, as he and his wife chose life when cancer struck during the pregnancy of their youngest child, and Doctors recommended abortion. In spite of their recommendations, the Hill family refused to terminate the pregnancy and gave birth to a baby boy. The full moving story can be seen here.
‘It’s time to pass liberty’s fight to a new generation of leaders and fighters,’ Paul said in his endorsement of Hill, highlighting the importance of electing a new generation of legislators to lead the liberty movement. ‘With anti-liberty forces fighting harder than ever in Congress, we need leaders unafraid to stand up for our freedom. Shak is such a great man. I’m pleased to give him my full support and endorsement to represent Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.’
In response to Paul’s endorsement, Hill released a statement expressing his gratitude to the former Congressman for both his endorsement and years of service. ‘I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of Dr. Ron Paul,’ Hill said. ‘I will always remember how many times Ron Paul stood alone and was often the single no vote to unconstitutional bills. A fighter for what is right, I will carry the torch of liberty that Congressman Paul carried for so many years forward and will daily fight for our Constitution and our nation.’
