San Francisco Labels NRA Domestic Terror Org, Politifact Labels them ‘False News’

Taking their attacks against law-abiding gun owners to the next level, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Tuesday officially designating the National Rifle Association as a domestic terror group. Introduced by District 2 Supervisor Catherine Stefani, a self-proclaimed ‘gun violence prevention activist’ and spokeswoman for the pro-gun confiscation group Moms Demand Action, the resolution carries no legal weight, serving instead as an official transmission of hysterical left-wing talking points.

Reportedly motivated to write the resolution following the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting earlier this year, Stefani claimed during Tuesday night’s board meeting that the NRA ‘exists to spread disinformation’. In her resolution, Stefani wrote that the NRA ‘promotes extremist positions…and undermines the general welfare’ of American citizens, which she ironically deems to be in violation of the Constitution of the United States. Stefani even took things a step further as she claimed that America’s public servants are obligated to oppose the NRA based on the oaths they have taken to defend and uphold the Constitution.

‘The NRA has it coming to them’ Stefani told San Francisco’s local FOX affiliate KTVU. ‘I will do everything that I possibly can to call them out on what they are which is a domestic terrorist organization.’ Stefani went on to list a number of high profile mass shootings but conveniently omitted the Labor Day weekend spike in violent crime seen in cities like Chicago, which saw 7 of its residents shot dead, and 34 others wounded in the days leading up to Tuesday night’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting. Of course, addressing the real issues surrounding gun violence would require coming to the table with real solutions, not cheap publicity stunts. Also absent from Stefani’s rant and resolution was any mention of Kate Steinle, the young San Francisco woman shot dead in 2014 by Jose Inez Garcia Zarate, an illegal alien who later was found not guilty based on claims that the gun used accidentally went off.

In addition to all this, Politifact, one of Facebook’s ‘independent fact-checkers’ has repeatedly hit the NRA with false news and partially false news designations for information they put out. They recently even labeled a meme put out by the NRA stating ‘Joe Biden Calls for Gun Ban’ as ‘mostly false’ because Biden didn’t specifically call to ban ALL guns. This designation places a false news penalty to any Facebook page that posted that meme which can result in reduced distribution and other penalties by Facebook, including being completely unpublished with enough penalties. We reached out to the author of the false news meme penalty story, Ciara O’Rourke‘, on Twitter and in an email in a request for clarification a few days ago and have not yet received a response. Politics Elections isn’t claiming that anything put out by the NRA is or isn’t correctly marked by Politifact in their articles, we are simply reporting the information relating to the designations given.

One of the pages affected, name redacted, received the penalty shown in the image below, for posting the NRA meme to their page. Facebook says to the offender:

“To fight false news, Facebook reduces the distribution of misleading content while also showing additional reporting on the same topic. Pages and websites that repeatedly publish or share misleading content will see their overall distribution reduced, their ability to monetize and advertise removed, and their ability to register as a news Page removed. People will also be able to see if a Page has a history of sharing false news. Deleting the misleading content won’t affect these outcomes.”
