AZ Governor Doug Ducey Changes Course, Throws Betsy Ross Under the Bus for Nike ‘Investment”

There are things in politics that aren’t shocking anymore, but what has happened in Arizona the past couple of weeks certainly ranks up there. On Tuesday, July 2nd, the state’s Republican Governor Doug Ducey tweeted out a series of 2 am tweets excoriating Nike for their decision to pull the Betsy Ross line of shoes and promised that he was pulling the incentives for them to invest in the state.

Last week though, in a stunning reversal, it was announced that the money was going to come through after all and subsequently re-Tweeted by Governor Ducey who declared Arizona, “open for business”.

There was backlash including an invitation from New Mexico’s Democrat governor to come to her state.

Things started to become murky on July 4th when Governor Ducey was spotted at an Independence Day picnic wearing a pair of Nikes.

He was in a patriotic mood on Twitter though, sending out a number of red, white, and blue themed tweets throughout the holiday weekend.

As of today, there has been no further comment by the Governor but it looks like another example of a conservative bowing to political pressure.
