How to Vote: State Voting Guides

Last updated: Oct. 25, 2026 · By Politics Elections Staff

Every state runs its own elections, so the rules for voting on Nov. 3, 2026 depend on where a voter lives. Registration deadlines, voter ID requirements, early voting dates and mail ballot rules all differ by state.

The guides below cover one state each: key dates, who can vote, voter ID at the polls, early and mail voting, and where to vote on Election Day.

Each guide is sourced to the state’s official election office and its counties, and carries the date it was last checked. For any state without a guide here, the state election office has the official rules.
