Democratic Socialist Massachusetts State Rep Unofficially Joins ‘The Squad’

Yesterday morning, Ayanna Pressley, who makes up one-fourth of ‘The Squad’ in the US House of Representatives took stopped in Somerville, Massachusetts apparently to meet with State Rep Mike Connolly and discuss “housing, transportation and infrastructure, and social equity”.

Connolly describes himself on Twitter as an “Attorney, activist, proud progressive Democrat and DSA member.”  He represents the 26th Middlesex District which includes ultra-liberal Cambridge.

Pressley endorses the idea of him joining ‘The Squad’ also.

Somerville is also looking to become the first city in Massachusetts to lower the voting age to 16.  Pressley has already introduced legislation at the federal level and offered her support. From the link:

“I support this because it is ridiculous that we think that young people are going to spontaneously combust at the age of 18 and suddenly care about their government and their relationship with it,” she said. “We should be fostering that civic participation, that engagement, that partnership with government that is not some static institution, that it is a dynamic, malleable, accessible thing — democracy and government is supposed to be.”
