Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) appeared with Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers at Sunday services at Perfecting Church in Detroit on Nov. 1, two days before the Nov. 3 election.

Stevens was recorded hugging Rogers as she walked in, according to The Washington Post and video from Michigan Chronicle reporter Sam Robinson.

In brief remarks before the service, Stevens said she supports investing in Black-owned businesses, “and that’s the policy that Mike’s going to take on,” according to Robinson’s video, as reported by Bridge Michigan and the Associated Press.

Inside, Stevens and her fiancé were photographed sitting next to Rogers and his wife, the Post reported. MS NOW reported that Stevens and Rogers were seen separately entering Perfecting Church, which it described as a prominent Black church in the city. The church is led by Pastor Marvin Winans.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin wrote on X that Stevens was “inside the Perfecting Church … for a service standing next to Republican Mike Rogers.” FOX 2 Detroit reported that Rogers “was joined by Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens as a special guest at Perfecting Church.”

A planned unity event fell apart

Stevens lost the August Democratic primary to Abdul El-Sayed and endorsed him days later. Earlier this week, she told CNN she would still vote for El-Sayed, Bridge Michigan reported.

She had been set to join El-Sayed and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) at a get-out-the-vote service at another Detroit church, Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ. That plan collapsed after a dispute over a Rebellion PAC ad about Israel. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), who helped organize the event, said she asked Stevens not to attend. “I’m the one who pulled it,” Dingell told the AP.

Rogers, a former congressman, faces El-Sayed on Tuesday for the open seat of retiring Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI).
