In Wake of PA Police Shooting, State Rep Brian Sims Concerned With Fundraising Numbers

Yesterday, there was a police standoff in Philadelphia, PA where 6 officers were injured as the suspect barricaded himself inside his home when they came to serve a warrant. The suspect had a history of violence and President Trump has tweeted that:

The Philadelphia shooter should never have been allowed to be on the streets. He had a long and very dangerous criminal record.”

Officers were also mocked and harassed by residents of the neighborhood as they tried to put a stop to the situation. They even harassed a local reporter trying to do her job.

Philadelphia is the home of State Rep Brian Sims (D), who Politics Elections has covered before when he harassed a group of praying believers in front of a local Planned Parenthood. He also used gay pride month to mock Christians and fundraise.

Instead of offering support or concern for the police, he chose to tweet out today that he was concerned about his fundraising numbers.

I’M A LITTLE CONCERNED about my numbers this month. Frankly, we’re still $1053 away from our goal at midnight, & that means we have to spend more (time) fundraising & less (time) fighting for progress, which isn’t ideal — can you chip in?”

A video from April was also uncovered where he and others rallied on against the police. According to the tweet, he even “lost his cool” during that press conference.

As recently as July 29th, he spoke out against the police on Twitter, saying that many people” are “killed by police… at alarming rates”

Not once has he voiced support for the police on his Twitter and the best he could do after the incident was to report that. “All six officers who were shot have been taken to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries!” He then encouraged others to “Stay inside.”

Even though Sims still has support, as evidenced by 3 people who claimed to have donated under the Tweet so far, he is likely reeling after being given the “Worst Public Performance” award by Philadelphia Magazine. This insensitivity in the face of tragedy could possibly earn him another one.
