Freedom Caucus member Dave Brat of Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, the only Congressional candidate in history to defeat a sitting House Majority Leader in a primary election, is being challenged by Abigail Spanberger in 2018, a pro-amnesty, far left Democrat playing the same tired identity politics we have become all too accustomed to seeing from the DNC. Spanberger, a former CIA Officer and resident of Henrico County has taken a page from the failed book of Hillary Clinton, by playing her ‘gender card’ on her campaign website and social media accounts, all the while ironically referring to what she sees as Republican partisanship as a threat to the United States.
On Spanberger’s campaign website, she touts endorsements from a number of failed Democrat candidates, including Jack Trammell and Eileen Bedell, who Congressman Brat soundly defeated in 2014 and 2016 respectively. Her website also features an ‘issues’ section, in which she attempts to spell out her stances on a number of issues. Despite sticking to vague Democrat talking points, Spanberger makes it abundantly clear that her catch-all solution to the problems facing everyday Americans is big, bloated government.
In a recent profile piece with the left wing, third wave feminist website Elle, Spanberger referred to Congressman Brat as ‘Virginia’s Trump’ (as if that’s a bad thing) and flopped while attempting to portray Brat as nothing more than a dumb Christian male. In showing how truly out of touch Spanberger and those backing her are with the issues affecting everyday Americans, Brat was further ridiculed for his pro-border security stances, as Virginia’s 7th was referred to as ‘not exactly the epicenter of the immigration debate,’ citing the District’s distance from Mexico as evidence of this claim. Of course, the reality on the ground is far different, as illegal alien crime and migration have surged throughout Virginia and the nation in recent years, regardless of proximity to the Mexican border.
Although Spanberger has attempted to paint a grim picture of Congressman Brat’s tenure on Capitol Hill, the stances on which Democrats have relentlessly attacked him matter most to his constituents, and are the very things that got him elected in the first place. A member of the House Freedom Caucus, Brat has been a champion of limited government since arriving in Washington, receiving high praise from a number of conservative, liberty-minded organizations, even scoring a 100% on Conservative Review’s famed ‘Liberty Score’ metric.
In Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, Democrats like Spanberger are offering more of the same. Following their national platform of attacking President Trump and dividing Americans through identity politics, Spanberger is promoting a larger, more intrusive government; something the people of Virginia’s 7th have repeatedly rejected.
