Women’s Soccer Team Disrespects Flag in World Cup Celebration, Demands Equal Pay

The team has already been embroiled in controversy all week but was still able to fend off any challenge by the outmatched opponents.  Members of the team believe that they can transcend sports, economics, and more.  In an article released last night, Rapinoe believes that Fifa and the world need many changes and that they will stop at nothing to see them implemented.

Team sponsor Nike released a new ad that stuck with the theme of sports transcendence and appeared to portray the team as having the power to do anything including “having their faces carved on Mount Rushmore”.  It is a visual commercial that hits at the overall nature of society and sports.

According to a recent CNBC article, the team’s games are now generating more revenue than the men’s team is so equal pay has been an issue as members of the team feel slighted by Fifa.  At the game today, a chant of ‘equal pay’ broke out.

President Donald Trump tweeted out congratulations.  It is unknown yet whether he will invite the team to the White House or not, but Rapinoe already said she wouldn’t accept an invite if it was extended.
