Florida Congressman Vern Buchanan Calls for Gun Control, Echoing Mast and Crenshaw

In the midst of ongoing gun control debate in the state of Florida and across the country, and with tensions inflamed by recent shootings, another Republican has ‘stepped out of line’ and called for stronger gun control laws.

Florida Congressman Vern Buchanan (R), serving the state’s 16th CD, tweeted out on August 12th, images of a letter that he sent to Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell.

In the past, Brian Mast (R) of Florida’s 18th CD, has also called for gun control, despite him being a pro-gun enthusiast, and more recently, prominent Congressman from Texas, Dan Crenshaw (R) has been under fire for calls for ‘Red Flag’ gun control laws.

In Buchanan’s letter to Mitch, he touts support for the H.R.8 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, in addition to ‘Red Flag’ law options as well.

These aren’t the only ones in Florida making waves though. Other prominent Republicans such as state Rep Mike Hill, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and state Rep Anthony Sabatini are all standing firm on their pro-gun stances they pledged to uphold to their constituents, in addition to pushing for pro-second amendment legislation and pushing back against further government infringements.

Ultimately it will come down the legislation that gets passed in Florida’s state legislatures, states throughout the country, and in the US Congress nationally whether or not we will see these pushes come to fruition or not.
