Democrat Candidate Tim Ryan Doesn’t Place Hand on Heart, Marianne Williamson Almost Forgets

Last night’s round 1 of 2 Democrat Presidential debates were lackluster, to say the least. Nevertheless, there were a few stand out moments, such as Bernie Sanders lashing out at Tim Ryan, Elizabeth Warren being more aggressive than usual, and one candidate (John Delaney) even praising the Trans-Pacific Partnership that President Trump pulled us out of, and even Bernie Sanders is against as well.

But back to Tim Ryan for a moment. The rep from OH, for some reason, decided not to place his hand on his heart during the national anthem before the CNN held Democrat debate.

Another candidate, who is relatively unheard of but getting traction on social media, Marianne Williamson, appeared to possibly forget to put her hand on her heart as well, and then later remembered and put it on, but Ryan was steadfast in holding his hands down. Interestingly enough, Williamson also got a tweet from Donald Trump Jr. last night shown underneath the image below.

In the picture from YouTube screen captures, you can see both Marianne Williamson and Tim Ryan with their hands down, and then in the bottom half of the picture, where Williamson realizes her possible mistake and puts her hand up.

Even moderate Republican Meghan McCain was appalled by Tim Ryan’s disrespect of the US. She tweeted:

Put your hand over your heart for the star spangled banner Tim Ryan!!! #DemocraticDebate

From ABC News:

Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary for George W. Bush, tweeted that Ryan, a Democrat, was “appealing to the Kaepernick wing of the Democratic Party.”

Fleischer tweeted:

Rep. Tim Ryan didn’t put his hand over his heart during the national anthem. I guess he’s appealing to the Kaepernick wing of the Democratic Party.

Ryan made some comments on the subject claiming that he usually does put his hand on this heart, but he didn’t really explain why he didn’t last night.

From wfmj.com:

As the debate was about to begin, Ryan stood out from the other nine candidates, all of whom put their right hand over their chest during the Anthem.

No one asked Ryan about it during the debate, but Derek caught up with Ryan afterward, telling the congressman that the omission was trending on Twitter.

After chuckling, Ryan responded: “I love this country as much as everybody else. I’ve been having the National Anthem played at football games I put my hand on my heart for the Pledge of Allegiance the choir was singing and it was great.”

Ryan has not qualified for the third set of Democrat debates yet, but if he does it will be interesting to see if he puts his hand on his heart next time, or how other Democrat politicians and pundits will react to this in the coming days as the flag seems to be something politicians and even sports stars are starting to consider controversial for some reason.
