Former Charlottesville Vice Mayor with History of Racial Tensions Hired by Virginia State University

Earlier this year Bellamy decided not to seek re-election to his most recent post with the Charlottesville city council.

Wes Bellamy did not say why he did not seek re-election but his tenure with the city of Charlottesville was not without controversy. Although he is sure to have some fans in the city, he faced more than a couple of moments of scrutiny.

From his more recent run-in with presidential candidate Joe Biden, where it is speculated that he was the reason Biden changed his campaign announcement venue from Charlottesville to another location, to his controversial Tweets and racially charged statements about white people, he has not shied away from the news over the recent years. He has also been very quick to disavow white nationalists from the tragic “Unite the Right” rally in 2017, but seemed to have no problem with the militant leftist’s side, which was just as troublesome.

Whatever one may think of Mr. Bellamy, he definitely leans towards the political left, which begs the question of if his politics played any role in his new job with a large university. Many large universities these days tend to hire a very large percentage of Democrats for whatever reason, and it’s funny to think there was no other reason why they looked past all the other controversy.

Recently a report was released by The Daily Progress showing just how much money Wes and his peers spent on the Charlottesville city credit card so far this year, and it looks like, Bellamy, being the third biggest spender, they weren’t cheap with the tax payer’s dollars. Mayor Nikuyah Walker was the biggest spender on the report, which was gathered via the Freedom of Information Act. One can only hope he will be more fiscally responsible at VSU.
